Seven Days of Solidarity in El Salvador
A report on a CRISPAZ delegation from Spring Hill College
Lindsay Hughes, assistant director of communications at Spring Hill College, accompanied nine students, a campus minister and the rector of the Jesuit community on a week-long immersion experience to El Salvador, arranged by CRISPAZ earlier this year. Her article and photos in the Spring 2010 issue of Spring Hill College magazine is not only a wonderful promotion for CRISPAZ and its work of accompaniment but a powerful armchair encounter with El Salvador and its people.
You can find this issue of the magazine online. The title of the article is "Seven Days of Solidarity in El Salvador."
Here is a part of Lindsay's conclusion to her day-by-day account:
In contrast to international service trips, our immersion in El Salvador required us to be witnesses and storytellers. What we experienced in El Salvador will impact our everyday decisions and the actions we take in the United States. [One student} said, "During this trip I was thinking, our service starts when we get back, rather than while we are in El Salvador."
Lindsay's article captures the spirit of reverse mission that CRISPAZ hopes to instill in every member of a CRISPAZ delegation. Please consider an online gift today to help CRISPAZ continue this work.
